Student Visa

Canada is a popular destination for students from all around the globe seeking higher education. The country’s diverse culture, communities, and top-notch universities make it an attractive option for those seeking to broaden their knowledge. As a student in Canada, you are afforded numerous opportunities to engage in research labs, fieldwork, and hands-on learning experiences. 

They were furthermore, studying in Canada as an international student presents many advantages, including the chance to receive a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) and apply for permanent residency. To do this, applicants must first enroll in a Designated Learning Institution in Canada and receive an Acceptance Letter. They must also demonstrate proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay in Canada by making a deposit or showing financial documentation.

Working While Studying

If you have a study permit, you can work up to 20 hours per week either on or off campus without needing a work permit. However, if your program includes Co-op, you will need a work permit. If you want to stay in Canada after you graduate, you have 90 days to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). This permit allows graduate students to work full-time in Canada. Extension and Restoration

If you want to continue studying in Canada beyond your original term, you can apply for an extension of your study permit. It’s important to submit your application before your current permit expires. If approved, you can maintain your status as a student in Canada while awaiting the processing of your extension request.

In case your circumstances or educational entities have changed, and you didn’t apply for an extension in time, you can apply for a restoration of your study permit. However, you must wait 90 days after your permit has expired before applying. This option allows for changes to be made to the terms of your study permit.

Student Direct Stream (SDS)

To qualify for faster processing under the Student Direct Stream (SDS), you need to fulfill the following criteria:

– You must be a legal resident of one of the following countries:

  • Antigua
  • Barbuda
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • India
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent
  • the Grenadines
  • Trinidad
  • Tobago
  • Vietnam.

– You must have an acceptance letter from a post-secondary designated learning institution.

– You should not be living in Canada while applying.

– You must provide evidence of payment for your first year’s tuition.

– You are required to have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) worth CAN$ 10,000.

– Get a medical exam before you apply (if you need one)

– Get a police certificate before you apply (if you need one)

– Have your most recent secondary or post-secondary school transcript(s)

– Have a language test result that shows either:

– An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic or general training score of 6.0 or higher in each skill (reading, writing, speaking, and listening)
